Frankland River is one of the five nominated sub-regions of the Great Southern Geographical Indication, alongside Albany, Denmark, Mount Barker, and Porongurup. Great Southern Wine Region associates it with richer reds, especially Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon. The old Mount Barker site kept /frankland.html because travellers used the highway town as a launch, not because Frankland is a suburb of Plantagenet.
The Great Southern is large — about 100 kilometres by 150 kilometres in the regional body’s own sketch. A “quick run out to Frankland” can eat a day that you also wanted for Castle Rock. Choose.
This page will not list current Frankland cellar doors. It will not assign a drive time that pretends every road is the same. If Frankland is the point of your trip, use official regional maps and confirm each gate. If Mount Barker is the point, keep Frankland as an optional extra day.
Return to wineries for the GI overview, or to getting here for the highway geometry.
