Welcome to Wine Country
One of the largest of Australia's wine regions, the Great Southern, stretches from Frankland River in the north to Albany in the south, from Denmark in the east to Mt Barker and Porongurup in the west - an area covering close to 1,000 square kilometres of some of the most picturesque and unspoilt countryside in Western Australia.
From the first 5 acre planting of Riesling and cabernet sauvignon in 1967, the region's vineyards have grown to cover over 800 acres, with all the major grape varieties represented.
Of these, Riesling has been the region's most famous variety, winning acclaim across Australia. In recent years both chardonnay and shiraz from the Great Southern have also proven themselves excellent performers and, with 26 cellar door outlets in the region, what could be better than to see -and taste - for yourself.
Take time out to meander around the vineyards and enjoy a slower pace of life for a while. Here there is no hustle and bustle, no deadlines; only the timelessness of a country still clean and vibrant.

- Ferngrove’s modern winery, located in tranquil Frankland River, sets a high standard in design and technology in the region. The rammed-earth building, corrugated iron roof, wide verandas, extensive use of local timber and a lookout tower with sweeping views of the spectacular Stirling Ranges connects the winery to its farming history and reinforces Ferngrove’s brand positioning of being authentic, modern, accessible and unique.

- Galafrey Wines remains the oldest family owned winery in Mount Barker. The grapes are dry grown, over 30 years old, giving intensity of fruit and lots of body to the wines.
